DESCRIPTION:Exploring the potentials of supernova detection in IceCube-Gen
 2 Core collapse supernovae (CCSNe) are among the most violent processes i
 n our Universe\, however\, the mechanisms that drive these energetic explo
 sions are not fully understood. MeV neutrinos carrying more than 99% of th
 e gravitational binding energy and being released almost instantaneously a
 fter the core bounce\, offer a unique probe into areas invisible to photon
 s. The IceCube neutrino observatory located at the South Pole is the large
 st neutrino telescope in the world. Originally build to measure the highes
 t-energy\, TeV-PeV\, neutrinos of cosmic origin\, it has world-leading sen
 sitivity to the MeV neutrino lightcurve from Galactic CCSN. In this talk\,
  I will present the work performed for my doctoral thesis\, by first intro
 ducing the general mechanisms of CCSN neutrino emission and neutrino detec
 tion in large-volume Cherenkov detectors. I continue by presenting the res
 ults of a detector prospect study aiming at quantifying the detection capa
 bilities of fast-time features in the neutrino lightcurve for IceCube and 
 future extensions. I finish by presenting my latest efforts on detailed si
 mulations of the in-sensor signature from CCSN neutrinos and background so
