Description
I will present the work of my master’s thesis, which revolved around a calculation of a hadronic cross section for the LHC with real emission and virtual contribution in a phenomenologically motivated supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. The analytical details of this work expose the intricate structure of infrared and ultraviolet divergences in hadronic cross sections. To cancel these divergences, we are required to carefully revise our notion of physical observables, asymptotic freedom in QCD and the experimental setup at a particle collider. I will discuss how this intuition can be carried over to gravity in light of what I have learned from my recent participation at the 7th School of Analytic Computing in High-Energy and Gravitational Theoretical Physics.
