Abstract:

Circumstellar and interstellar environments contain a rich chemical inventory ranging from simple diatomic molecules to complex polyatomic systems. Some of the largest interstellar molecular species identified thus far are fullerenes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which contain many tens or even hundreds of atoms. In my talk I will present our work on studying the growth, evolution,  and destruction of such systems as well methods for identifying them in space, using tools such as ion storage rings, helium nanodroplets, and computational chemistry.
