Abstract:
The double electrostatic ion-beam storage ring, DESIREE, is being used to study hot or cold ions through spontaneous decay processes, laser investigations and controlled collisions with oppositely charged ions. The facility will be briefly described before I turn to the science and present a few of the recent results of experiments with two stored ion beams, including studies of mutual neutralization of importance for quantitative analyses of stellar spectra. Additional recent highlight that will be discussed include studies of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and fullerenes with possible impact on the chemistry of the interstellar medium.
