I'll discuss some progress in an ongoing project regarding infrared behaviour of pions in the presence of background fields for the chiral symmetry. We will discuss how the single soft pion theorem is modified when the NLSM background fields are turned on. Next, we add the parity-odd sector (WZW term) to the chiral Lagrangian, again coupled to background fields. Finally, we will make some comments on the interplay between the mixed 't Hooft anomaly and subleading soft limits (work in progress).
