Positive theta series definite theta series are classical objects in the analytic theory of quadratic forms and in modular forms with many applications, not only in arithmetic. In comparison, indefinite quadratic forms and their theta series have been less studied but provide for an equally rich theory.
In this talk, we will aim to give a gentle introduction to theta series and to discuss recent developments in the theory of indefinite theta series focusing on examples and highlighting the underlying geometric aspects.
