Abstract:

The Milky Way is an environment rich with satellite galaxies, stellar streams and accreted systems, tracing galaxy evolution and chemical enrichment throughout cosmic time. The Milky Way satellite dwarf galaxies are intrinsically metal-poor with a dominant old stellar population, making them ideal to study early chemical enrichment. Here, I will talk about what the current observations can tell us about the still mysterious properties of the first zero-metallicity stellar populations. Furthermore, I will introduce my large upcoming 4MOST survey of dwarf galaxies, 4DWARFS, and how it is expected to help us unravel the elusive properties of the first stars.
