Masterclass - Hands on Particle Physics är ett evenemang organiserat av kärnfysikavdelningen vid Uppsala Universitet tillsammans med experimentkollaborationen Belle II och dess Particle Physics Outreach Group. Evenemanget riktar sig till gymnasieelever med särskilt intresse för fysik.
Under denna Masterclass kommer ni att få vara med och utforska vårt universums beståndsdelar, de så kallade elementarpartiklarna. Ni kommer även få prova på hur man som forskare arbetar för att skapa, påvisa och studera dessa med Belle II-experimentet.
Under förmiddagen kommer ni att introduceras till partikelfysik som ämne och grundprinciperna för de experimentella metoder som används i fältet. Därefter kommer ni att få arbeta praktiskt med materialet, bland annat genom att identifiera partiklar utifrån detektorsignaler. Dessa signaler kommer från Belle II detektorn som är ansluten till acceleratorn SuperKEKB vid KEK, ett laboratorium för högenergifysik beläget i Tsukuba, Japan.
Denna Masterclass sker samtidigt i flera Europeiska länder och i slutet av dagen kommer vi allihopa att ansluta till ett videosamtal för att diskutera och jämföra resultat från övningen. Dagen avslutas sedan med ett quiz!

The Belle II "Masterclass - Hands on Particle Physics" is organized from the nuclear physics division at Uppsala University and coordinated by the International Particle Physics Outreach group (IPPOG). The Masterclass is dedicated to high school students selected on the basis of their interest and talent.
The event consists of spending a whole day discovering the world of elementary particles, working as researchers on actual data collected from real experiments.
The day is devoted to a series of lectures during which students are introduced to the main study subjects in Particle Physics and the research methods applied in this field.
What is learnt during the lectures is then used to tackle the activities proposed in the afternoon.
The students, divided into research groups, will analyze the data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB accelerator at the KEK laboratory in Tsukuba (Japan).
The day ends with a video call with other groups of European students who analyzed the same data during the same day. During the call the results obtained by the individual groups are discussed and compared and a fun quiz game is proposed to all the participants.
You will be offered lunch and coffee but we need to ask you to bring your own laptop!
