Description
Abstract:
The LHC and its experiments at CERN had a successful first run of data taking with the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. Still, there has not been any clues to beyond the standard model physics, save for its absence. Since this summer, the LHC is delivering data to the experiments again and ATLAS is preparing its analyses to look for new physics. One prominent feature in beyond the standard model theories is an extended Higgs sector, i.e. more than one particle, including a charged pair. I will give an introduction to the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons and talk about the searches performed by ATLAS during run I and what we want to do for run II. I will also describe the upgrade plans of the detector for the high luminosity era of LHC. In particular I will talk about my work on the development of a hardware track trigger, something that will be essential to utilise the increased luminosity and probe rare processes.
