Description
Abstract:
Following the discoveries of LHC, a future electron-positron collider will be needed for precision measurements. One candidate for such a future collider is the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) that is based on normal-conducting technology. Recent investigations have revealed modes with transverse octupolar shape that propagate in the accelerating structures. We discuss the potential of exploiting these modes for beam diagnostics and structure alignment. Moreover, the length of CLIC is determined by the surface physics within the accelerating structures which are subject to discharges due to the high electromagnetic fields. We briefly describe the experiment where we investigate discharges and field-emission on the microscopic scale inside a scanning electron microscope at UU.
