Abstract:

Following the changes of the solar abundances in the early 2000s, the solar modelling community has faced a major setback due to the disagreement between standard solar models using the new abundances and helioseismic constraints.  The latter have often been used to disqualify the updated abundances and the recent work of Magg et al. 2022 has been announced to "solve the solar abundance problem".

In this seminar, I will review the current issue with solar models as seen by helioseismology.  I will briefly present the helioseismic constraints we have on solar abundance and explain why the solar problem is not restricted to chemical abundances.  I will also discuss what missing physical processes actually imply for the standard solar models and why an abundance revision cannot be considered to "solve the solar problem" given its intrinsic link to other physical ingredients used to depict the evolution of our star.
