The burst discs that provide pressure relief to the 2 K helium circuit in both the Spoke Cavity Cryomodule prototype and the Elliptical Cavity Cryomodule prototype (M-ECCTD) have recently opened unexpectedly during test stand operations. Such behavior during either testing or linac operations would have a significant, negative effect on both schedule and accelerator availability. The reasons behind the opening of these burst discs and mitigations to prevent future openings (absent a true safety issue) need to be identified.
The committee is asked to examine the design of both the Spoke and Elliptical Cavity Cryomodule along with the results of the recent bust disc events; answer the following charge questions and make recommendations.
Review Committee: J. Weisend (Chair), P. Pierini (ESS), R. Trant (ESS), P. Arnold (ESS), M. Jensen (ESS), A. Henriques (CERN), T. Peterson (SLAC), B. Petersen (DESY).
Reviewers: P. Bosland (CEA), W. Hees (ESS), C. Darve (ESS), N. Elias (ESS).
