Description
Superconducting radio-frequency technology enables continuous-wave operation and high repetition rates in modern free-electron laser (FEL) facilities. This invited talk introduces the Polish Free-Electron Laser (PolFEL) facility, which is under development at the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Poland as of 2026. Its superconducting accelerator infrastructure will support terahertz FEL radiation and MeV ultrafast electron diffraction, complemented by a vacuum-ultraviolet source based on high-harmonic generation. The talk highlights the role of superconductivity in enabling these capabilities, their scientific applications and opportunities for future collaboration in accelerator technology, cryogenics and ultrafast science.
