TIARA Workshop on RF Power Generation for Accelerators

Europe/Stockholm
Polhem salen and 80109 (exhibition) (Ångström Laboratory)

Polhem salen and 80109 (exhibition)

Ångström Laboratory

Description
Uppsala University and TIARA organize a 3-day international workshop on novel concepts for RF power generation for accelerators. Experienced researchers and leading companies in the field of RF power generation and related technologies will gather at the Angstrom laboratory to explore the technical challenges emerging from the design of new accelerators and to match them with state-of-the-art industrial solutions for RF power generation.

Through knowledge exchange between research institutes and commercial partners, the workshop will address technical challenges shared by European research infrastructures collaborating in TIARA (Test Infrastructure and Accelerator Research Area), an EU-funded project having the objective to integrate national and international accelerator R&D infrastructures into a single distributed European accelerator R&D facility.

The workshop will focus on the main areas of
  • electron tube devices,
  • solid-state amplifiers,
  • phase-stability and timing.

Presentations and discussions will be intertwined to maximize knowledge
exchange opportunities between researchers and commercial partners.

Companies are given the opportunity to present their developments and
technical applications on poster boards and with exhibits in the area used
for coffee and lunch breaks.

Upgrade Scenarios for the Advanced Photon Source RF Power Sources
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) rf power systems have provided high performance and exceptional reliability in their first eighteen years of operation. Maintaining reliable operation over this period has involved addressing issues such as component obsolescence, aging, and general wear and tear. A brief description of the APS rf systems will be presented, along with a summary of system performance. Upgrades scenarios to improve performance and maintain reliability for the next twenty years will be presented, including efforts to develop both a solid state and IOT option to conventional klystrons.
